Ultrafiltration
Ultrafiltration membranes can't remove ions from water, but can remove tiny particles.
They can generally remove particles smaller than 0.01μm (one-ten-thousandth the size of a human hair). In addition to their industrial purpose of polishing manufactured ultra-pure water, they can also be used for domestic purposes.
